In this mentoring session you will learn how to plan for an outdoor scenic shoot. How do you scout the location? How do you plan to incorporate and integrate foreground, middle ground, and background elements? How do you plan your gear? How do you plan for the right light or to take advantage of ephemeral atmospheric conditions? How do you determine the timing of events like sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset, and other astronomical events? This session will be a practical session in the field where we will practice using apps to predict the location and timing of different astronomical events. We will also discuss how to scout a shoot ahead of time, how to read how morning or evening light will fall on a scene, and plan for the photograph you eventually want to make. Equipment and phone app recommendations will be sent to participants ahead of time.
